The province of Alajuela (see map) shares a border with the Heredia, San Jose, Puntarenas and Guanacaste provinces, and runs adjacent the San Juan River (Nicaraguan border) to the north. It includes the easternmost section of Lake Arenal, the part nearest to La Fortuna and Arenal National Park. The remaining, and largest part of Lake Arenal, can be found in the Guanacaste Province.
The capital of Alajuela is the city of Alajuela, and the province is divided into 15 regions (cantons). Click on the text links below for accommodations in each region.
